New Reports: The Nigeria Internet User (Update) PDF Print E-mail

The Nigerian Internet population has witnessed tremendous growth since 2005 when the last edition was published; with a boost from 2,418,679 users in 2005

to an estimated number of 10million Internet users in 2008. 41% of users surf the internet daily, accessing the internet from home (84%) and work place (82%).

However, the cybercafé (89%) remain the most common access point for users.  It is estimated that Nigeria has the highest number of Internet users in Africa in 2008 with an estimated penetration rate of 7.2%; while Lagos State houses 2,689,418 users being the highest in the country.
This study also reveals low utilization of internet banking and eCommerce services because of issues bordering on security, trust, accessibility etc. At present, the number of users connected to the internet via mobile phones is quite small, relative to actual subscriptions to mobile networks and a national population in excess of 140million.

The Nigerian Internet user survey on which this report is based sought to determine the extent of Nigeria’s Internet participation in this global age; the extent of its presence, complexities and challenges faced by user,  the internet user and how demographics affects their usage pattern.   The results are inspiring and stimulating and expose enormous potentials for future growth as Nigeria remains one of the most challenging and exciting markets in the world.
